At Last: the important Willie

I had to jot down this review when reading the previous reviewer's comments, that create very little sense. THE OUTLAW could be a fantastic scan, and, additional importantly, the primary book that actually grapples with the strange, magic reality of Willie Nelson. it's just about un-put-downable, filled with character and verve, honesty and insight.

Even as I tore through it I suspected there can be a split between those that scan it: for so-called 'loyal' Willie fans who treat him like some quite God, it should not attractiveness. those that are searching for an uncomplicated, unthinking homage to Willie won't notice it here - there are lots of those sorts of books on the shelves, however this is often the primary Willie book to essentially grapple with the complexities of the man; it's a warts 'n' all study, though affectionate, knowledgable and honest, and presents him and his wonderful world in a very thorough and really new method.

It is clearly and cleverly written, with very little up-close vignettes of Willie in between every chapter, and with cameos from all the main players in Willie's life. I bet Willie scan it with a wry chuckle and thought, 'Yep, they finally got me!'

A wonderful book, highly suggested to any or all Willie fans who do not wear blinkers, and every one different music fans.

Bill German gets his Ya-Yas out

Let me begin by tempering my comments with the actual fact that I've long been an admirer of the Stones (going back to my garage-band days within the late 60's), therefore i started this book with a sincere interest in understanding the "phenomenon" we all know as "The Rolling Stones". when simply a brief whereas, i used to be fully blown away by Bill Wyman's thorough, loving, and fantasically annotated effort. Here it's women and gentlemen, the whole history (warts and all) of 1 of the world's nice rock bands. i'm amazed that the book comes across as objective, and Wyman never sounds as if he is boasting or bragging...he simply lays out the history of the cluster, song-by-song and performance-by-performance. data is presented in somewhat of a scrapbook format, however this quickly grows on you, because it permits you to skip over things you may not care to look at (lists every|of every} forum where the Stones played on each tour), and savor the tidbits of knowledge that are therefore insightful. every page holds an unbelievable quantity of information: images, background data, side notes, copies of contracts, mini-biographies, discographies, and so on. terribly attention-grabbing tidbits of knowledge are found nearly everywhere....did you recognize that the famous "Jumping Jack Flash" riff wasn't a Jagger/Richard idea? various clippings from newspapers and different media of the day, in flip condemning or praising the Stones as a bunch and as people. It's nearly like being allowed to look at Wyman's day-by-day scrapbook/diary of what happened because the band went from a bunch of faculty boys to the best rock band left standing. The wonderful factor is that I never found myself uninterested in this volume. perhaps that is as a result of I've continuously been amazed by the Stones, and maybe that is natural for somebody who "grew up" with them. therefore my recommendation is aimed toward people who are sincere Stones fans or people who have a deep interest within the history of the band. This book ought to just about answer all of your queries and supply several hours of entertainment as you "roll" with the Stones.

Pretty sensible however not for students

I gave this book four stars as a result of it had been a awfully sensible, easy read. The author did a good job, and Keith Richards will a decent job of being honest concerning portraying the image of how the social staff real life is during this field. It does not provides a ton of detail on the cases themselves and that i would not suggest it to students as a result of it does not build the sphere sound too nice. i might suggest it to folks simply to fancy however as way as case studies ..Nah. i believe anyone might browse this book. i needed it had additional detail concerning the cases themselves though.

WELL well worth the WAIT

I have simply received my copy of The Lost Rolling Stones images from the Bob Bonis Archive, 1964-1966 and that i got to say that within the 266 pages are some the best surprises I even have ever seen. I even have many Stones books being that they're the "worlds most dangerous band" and this can be THE ONE for the fans. The photos show several shots of them being well...not therefore dangerous. Giving one another haircuts, bowling, lounging poolside and as boys are boys, simply being plain recent silly and fun. Never before has this facet of them been out there to the general public during this amount and quality that makes me suppose the gang was either scared to death of Bob Bonis or he had earned their trust and respect. i select the latter.

The live shots are from many totally different angles at varied venues and it conjointly has many from vaious studio sessions.

I did some homework and told my spouse to shop for me a framed print of the photo of Keith and Brian drinking by the pool with Keith giving the finger (also in Keith Richards book, Life) for Christmas at NFAgallery.com (the company that owns the photos)

I am certain many additional Stones books can follow as a result of the success of Keith's book, however sensible luck making one thing higher than this. Special because of Alex Bonis (Bob's Son) who gave the impression to hold on to the photos all this point. you recognize you have got one thing terribly special when a number of the photographs are in Keith's bio AND Charle Watts offers it a seal of approval. Cheers mate! cannot expect the Beatles version in March.

Disappointed

Although I admit, i'm not a Rolling Stone reasonably guy, I nevertheless have revered the Rolling Stone Interviews (and interviewers) over the years a similar as I still respect the legendary Playboy interviews. This was the primary time I had ever scan a set of interviews by Rolling Stone, and that i should say that using the Playboy Interviews as a yardstick, i used to be terribly disappointed in them. i believe the rationale i used to be disappointed is that I expected lots a lot of.

It is a truism deserving respect lately, that Artists in our culture could also be the last of a dying breed of freethinkers. they will be all that continues to be of these whose minds haven't nonetheless been utterly "socially adjusted" (i.e. lobotomized into Americanized consensus herd-think). So, naturally i used to be expecting some freewheeling exchanges here that may take the reader beyond the "beaten path." However, this wasn't to be the case. Even from the iconoclast Bob Dylan, the interviews here were kept near the already well-known script. problems like how one artist feels concerning another one, whether or not they were on medication or not, their next venues, what they consider their older music, etc, dominated these interviews and appeared to me are the type of queries that may are a lot of applicable for lesser magazines. Said in our own way, this assortment was entirely too "chatty" and superficial for my style. rather than partaking in either the intricacies of the music, or into a lot of philosophical problems concerning the art itself or maybe concerning what things have an effect on the artists lives outside of music, it hewed near inane problems a lot of appropriate for "People" magazine than for one with Rolling Stone's name.

It unnecessarily created those interviewed appear one-dimensional and shallow. And whereas this could indeed be the case for the run-of-the-mill pop music star, the gathering here, for the foremost half, was supposed to represent the trailblazers and therefore the cream of the crop, and as a result, I expected the interviewer to induce beneath the surface to assist us perceive from whence their creativity springs? however here the reader learns little that he may have gleaned from lesser-known pop rag sheets. 2 stars
